This vibrant musical tells the compelling story of Jamie New, a sixteen-year-old from a Sheffield council estate, who dreams of living out loud as a drag queen. Unlike his peers, Jamie aspires to attend his school prom in a dress, sparking a journey of self-discovery and acceptance. With the support of his loving mum and a circle of friends, Jamie confronts and conquers the bullies and prejudice he faces, finding his place in the spotlight.

The musical, inspired by the true story of Jamie Campbell, features a stirring score by Dan Gillespie Sells of The Feeling and poignant book and lyrics by Tom MacRae, known for his work on “Doctor Who.” Directed by Guy Brigg MBE and with musical direction by Ali Kane, this production by the Musical Youth Company of Oxford delivers a dynamic blend of catchy pop tunes, powerful performances and high-energy dance numbers. The lineup includes esteemed figures such as Sir Nicholas Mostyn, a former High Court Judge; Gillian Lacey-Solymar, a businesswoman and former journalist; celebrated BBC journalists Rory Cellan-Jones and Mark Mardell; Jeremy Paxman, the formidable former Newsnight host; and Paul Mayhew-Archer, co-writer of “Vicar of Dibley.” Together, they have reached over a million downloads across four podcast series, sharing stories full of humour, heartfelt moments and engaging discussions about life before and after their Parkinson’s diagnoses.
