ABOUT
Antique carpets and rugs & contemporary hand made rugs & textiles of quality
Specialists in antique carpets, contemporary carpets and textiles of artistic merit from Europe through to Japan, including tribal weavings, an excellent collection of Persian Jajims and Jan Kath Contemporary Rug Art.
Established in 1974, Legge Carpets have built up a large collection of constantly changing oriental carpets, rugs, runners, Kilims, flatweaves, Jajims, cushions and tribal weavings from the traditional areas of carpet production. Persian rugs and carpets in particular constitute the majority of the collection which are all available for purchase, and the collection also includes Turkish, Caucasian, Turkoman, Afghan, Indian, Tibetan and Chinese rugs.
Modern rugs and carpets in traditional designs are all made to the highest specification using top-grade hand spun wool and natural dyes, which gives them vibrancy and unrivalled wearing qualities.
At the other end of the spectrum in modern carpets are designer pieces, notably work by Contemporary Rug Art designer Jan Kath, whose superb ever-developing oeuvre takes up a prominent place in our gallery and is a clear statement of zeitgeist.
Visitors are very welcome to browse rugs, carpets and textiles online as well as enjoy the ambience at the Oxford gallery located in Summertown to choose a rug or make use of the comprehensive carpet library. All visitors are welcome including private individuals, interior designers and public institutions.
